Call for Tutors: Integrated Research Module of the MS in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery

We are currently seeking suitably qualified and enthusiastic faculty to support students undertaking their integrated research module and dissertation year as part of the University of East Anglia’s Masters Course in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery.

This online course has been running successfully since 2011. Increasing student numbers and globalization of the programme have created a need for academic breast surgery mentors with experience in research processes, who would be willing to guide students through the academic development and implementation of their Masters project. All students have a named local supervisor to oversee their project.

Module aims

The online 16 week integrated research module provides formal teaching covering the basics of research study design and development including statistics, ethics and research methods. Students then develop a research protocol which is assessed and forms the basis of their project for their final year dissertation.

Tutor role

Tutors will be allocated 1-2 students to mentor, based on geographical location and personal research interests. The role will involve providing advice in the preparation of their research study protocol during the initial taught module, and ongoing remote support and mentoring during the subsequent dissertation year. Time commitment will be flexible, with participation required in the online discussion forum for 1-2 hours over 2-4 weeks, attendance at an online module dissertation study day, and ongoing email contact with the student.

Tutor requirements

We are keen to recruit enthusiastic breast surgeons with research experience at CI/PI level or beyond. The role may provide an opportunity for you to expand your research in an area of interest if this aligns with the student. Besides the personal rewards this brings, we also offer Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points for each element of your contribution, which will provide evidence of your involvement for revalidation purposes.

If you are interested in this role, please contact either Mr Amit Agrawal (Research Module Lead for Breast Surgery), or the UEA e-learning team at specialist.courses@uea.ac.uk for further information.
